Agago Women MP race gets to the climax ahead of 2026 general elections.

AGAGO, UGANDA– December 8, 2025:The countdown to the national election has entered its final sprint. In the Northern district of Agago, the race for the District Women Member of Parliament (WMP) seat is shaping up to be one of the most closely contested race of the 2026 cycle. With the ballot scheduled for 15th, January 2026, residents of Adilang, Kalongo, Wol, Lokole, Arum, Lira‑Palwo, Lapono, Omot, Lamiyo sub‑counties and Patongo Town Council respectively have been canvassing the promises and track records of several high‑profile contenders.
A RACE OF COMPETENT CONTENDERS.
Hon. Akello Judith Franka of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) was a former Agago Women MP who served in (2011‑2021).
Minister Hon. Akello Beatrice Akori, National Resistance Movement (NRM) and a Minister of State for Economic monitoring. She is the incumbent Woman MP of Agago district in the 11th Parliament of Uganda.
Hon.Omara Miria, is contesting under an Independent ticket. She is the LCV councilor representing the people of Omot/ Arum sub-County in the Agago District Local Government.
Hon.Anek Nancy Obita Odong is contesting as an Independent candidate. She is a vibrant aspirant liked by many people as a real political game changer. Anek formerly worked as News Editor with the New vision printing and publication.
All the candidates for the women MP race have been described by voters as “competent” and “capable of service delivery,” but the bulk of the field’s momentum appears to be gravitating toward the two front‑runners: Akello Judith Franka and Akello Beatrice Akori.
VOTER SENTIMENT ON THE GROUND
“I will vote for Hon. Franka because she is a disciplined leader who is down‑to‑earth,” said Akello Sarah, a resident of Patongo Town Council. “She knows the community’s challenges and has a proven record of service.”
In Kalongo’s Nimaro ward, a voter echoed the sentiment: “Akello Franka fought hard for Kalongo to benefit from several programs including distributing hoes. That’s why I support her.”
Conversely, supporters of the NRM minister are equally vocal. Bosco, a farmer from Wol Kicoo, remarked: “Akori is a good leader. She has helped us attain PDM (People’s Development Model) projects that have improved our livelihoods.”
From Lapono Sub- county, Mr. Jolly Joe expressed enthusiasm for an alternative voice: “I want Miria elected because of her vibrant lifestyle and her track record as a councilor for Omot sub county in Agago District council hencw l hope she is a fresh energy to the 12th parliament.”
POLLING DAY APPROACHES
Election officials have confirmed that voting will take place on 15th, January 2026, while the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) continues its voter‑updates.
Political analysts note that the tight race could result in a narrow margin, emphasizing the importance of every vote in the largely rural constituency. “If the trend holds, we could see a dead‑heat between Franka and Akori,” said a political science scholar. “Both candidates have strong party machinery, but the personal connections they built during their previous terms could be decisive.”

“Our goal is to amplify the voices of Agago’s electorate and hold the aspirants accountable for their promises and manifesto,” said Administrator of Tayari News Uganda.

As the election draws near, campaign activities are intensifies, the electorate’s final verdict will likely hinge on how well the candidates can convince electorate with concrete agenada ahead of the 2026 parliamentary race.
