KAMPALA, UGANDA —December 16, 2025: Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has advised citizens to cast their votes and return home on January 15, 2026, to avoid unnecessary gatherings at polling stations.
In a statement issued by Gen. Kainerugaba emphasized that only accredited personnel—including agents of presidential candidates, Members of Parliament, election observers, and media—will be permitted to remain at voting centres after ballots are cast.
“The vote counting and tallying process will be conducted transparently and openly, with representatives from all candidates present,” the CDF said. “Voters have no reason to linger; the exercise will be free, fair, and credible.”
The warning comes amid heightened preparations for Uganda’s general elections, with security agencies keen to prevent potential unrest. Gen. Kainerugaba assured the public that local and international observers, as well as the media, will monitor the process to ensure integrity.

The CDF issued a stern warning against attempts to disrupt the polls, stating, “Those who try to cause trouble, as some have claimed they will, will face the full force of the law.”
The Electoral Commission has scheduled voting for January 15, 2026, with nearly 18 million registered voters expected to participate. Gen. Kainerugaba’s directive aligns with broader efforts to maintain order during what is anticipated to be a closely watched electoral process.
Authorities have pledged to facilitate a peaceful election, urging cooperation from all stakeholders to uphold democratic principles.
