Divine Mandate and Readiness: Col (Rtd) Dr. Francis Ongia Vows to Serve in 2026 Parliament as Kioga County MP.
AMOLATAR, UGANDA – In a powerful address to a gathering of supporters and faith leaders, retired Colonel Dr. Francis Ongia has predicted his parliamentary ambitions for the 2026-2031 term not as a mere political campaign, but as a divinely-ordained mission. Citing spiritual principles and a call to servant leadership, Ongia outlined the core reasons he believes his entry into the national legislature is inevitable.
Central to his message is the faith that true leadership is a divine appointment. “Leadership comes from God,” Ongia stated, quoting Psalm 75:6-7. “For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west… but God is the judge. We operate not on our own timing, but on His perfect timing and for His divine purpose.”
The retired colonel’s framework moves beyond typical campaign rhetoric, presenting seven theological and practical pillars that justify his anticipated victory. He emphasised that a leader’s readiness is just as crucial as their desire.
“Some people may ask for political leadership before they have the experience, networks, or skills and maturity to handle it,” he explained. “I believe my life’s journey—through military service, public administration, and community development—has been a preparation phase, spiritually, mentally, and socially, for this specific role.”
Ongia also stressed that political power must be validated by the people’s trust, which he claims to have earned through a visible track record. “Leadership is validated by people’s trust. Some aspirants fail because the community has not yet seen their consistency or commitment. We have been on the ground; our work speaks for us,” he said, suggesting his grassroots efforts have already laid the foundation for widespread support.
In a clear distinction from what he termed “self-seeking politicians,” Ongia asserted that motive is paramount. Quoting Proverbs 16:2, “The Lord weighs the motives,” he positioned himself as a servant-leader whose intentions align with truth and public service, implying that this purity of purpose would grant him divine and popular favour.
He did not shy away from acknowledging the challenges ahead, terming them in spiritual words. “Leadership positions attract spiritual battles,” Ongia noted, referencing Ephesians 6:12. “Opposition, envy, and negative spiritual forces can cause delays. This is why our campaign is grounded in prayer, fasting, and seeking divine covering.”
Ultimately, Ongia’s message is one of assured destiny. He concluded by stating that a ‘no’ or a delay is not always a rejection, but often a divine ‘not yet.’
“God may be preparing the person, the people, or the environment. I am confident that at the perfect time, this leadership will manifest to bring a lasting impact and divine approval to our people,” he declared to a resounding applause from the audience.
As the 2026 elections draw nearer, Col (Retd) Dr. Francis Ongia is preaching unique manifesto blending faith with politics and presenting his candidacy as an act of destiny rather than mere political ambition.
