Gulu, Uganda: The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on Friday passed out 61 platoon commanders from the 4th Infantry Training Wing at Lugore Barracks in Gulu.
Gulu Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC ) Cosmas James Okidi, who presided over the ceremony, commended President Yoweri Museveni for his visionary leadership and the continued guidance of the High Command.

“I wish to recognise the dedication of the commandant, the instructors and the training staff who have worked tirelessly to transform these trainees into effective, combat-ready fighters,” Okidi told the graduated platoon commanders.
The deputy RDC urged the officers as they take on their new responsibilities to focus on the following pillars of UPDF;
- You must observe discipline, good conduct and remain beyond reproach, maintaining respect for the civilian population you are sworn to protect.
- Ideological clarity – understand the mission of the UPDF, be grounded in patriotism and Pan-Africanism and always put Uganda first.
- Professionalism – continue to hone your technical skills and physical fitness so that you prepared to respond to any security challenges.

DRDC Cosmas Okidi congratulated the new officers and militants for enduring rigorous physical and mental training.

“You have learned teamwork, marksmanship and the true meaning of service. But remember, this is not the end of your journey — it is the beginning,” he said.
,”As I conclude, I want to remind you about the recent policy of no more sleep and no corruption echoed by His Excellency the President of the republic of Uganda” Said Gulu Deputy RDC Cosmas.
The six-month course equipped the officers with skills in tactics, leadership, weapons handling, and civil-military relations.
The UPDF said the new platoon commanders will be deployed across the country to boost national security and support wealth creation programmes.
