LIRA CITY: Moroto County MP Hon. Elem Leo warns Lango leaders: “I will snatch the microphone” from those misrepresenting region.
Hon. Elem Leo, MP for Moroto County, has warned Lango leaders who misrepresent the region’s agenda whenever H.E President Museveni visits, saying he is ready to “snatch the microphone” from them.
Speaking to the media at Gracious Palace Hotel in Lira City on Sunday evening, Elem accused some leaders of using presidential visits to push personal and party interests instead of the people’s demands.
“I am very ready to snatch the microphone from any person who will position himself or herself to represent the Lango agenda but then divert to party lines,” Elem said.
“Leaders who always represent Lango agenda in their own ways contrary to what the people expect should be ready for shame on the microphone. People are not contented with this imaginary representation instead of the people’s agenda and requests to H.E the President.”
Calls for unity in Lango
The statements came during a meeting of Lango leaders attended by Hotel owrners.
Hon. Patrick Ogwang Obura, Chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group and MP for Oyam South, urged hotel owners in Lango to unite and support regional development. He also called on leaders to avoid discrimination and infighting.
Hon. Fred Jalamweso expressed fear that if Lango leaders remain divided, the sub-region risks missing out on opportunities such as hosting matches for AFCON 2027.
“As your elected leaders we are now tired of infighting,” Ogwang said.
Dr. Morris Chris Ongom, Chairman of the Lango Sub-region Chamber of Commerce, commended the Pakistani community in Lira and said hotel owners should unite. He also highlighted the need to advocate for Anai International Airport and other key infrastructure projects.
Members of parliament will today, Monday at 2:00 PM, meet the management of Lira University to discuss issues affecting the institution and the region.
Elem concluded by urging all Lango leaders to present a united front when engaging the President, to ensure the sub-region benefits from government programmes.
