Deputy RDC Lutwama Mathias, ARDC Ongom Lameck Resolve 12-Year Land Conflict in Alebtong.

ALEBTONG – A 12-year-old land conflict that has rocked the Okarowoko clan in the jungles of Aliwok Village, Aloi Sub-county, has been resolved.
The mediation exercise held on Monday, 31st August 2026, was led by Deputy Resident District Commissioner Alebtong, Mathias Lutwama, Assistant RDC Alebtong, Ongom Lameck, and the Chairperson LC3 Aloi Sub-county, Jimmy Kasule.
The dispute pitted the family of Olum David, the complainant, against the family of Ongom Bosco, the accused.
At the heart of the conflict was whether the disputed land was ever transacted between the two parties, whether subdivision of land parcels can cancel an earlier deemed transaction, and whether an amicable settlement through compensation could end the social strife.
How it was resolved:
According to a report by the mediation team, they sensitized the community on customary land tenure and Ugandan laws, guided residents on the legal forms of land transactions, and used social persuasion to dispel impending violence.
Results:
- The two warring families, in the presence of the entire community, resolved to end the strife.
- The family of Olum David accepted to compensate the family of Ongora David in exchange for the return of their seized father’s land, which belonged to the late Charles Akena.
The successful mediation has restored total stability in the fragile Aliwok Village and the Okarowok fraternity at large.
