Moroto County MP Elem Leo Rushes to Rescue of Lightning Victims in Alebtong

Alebtong-Moroto County Member of Parliament, Hon. Leo Elem, has been praised for his swift response after a young family in his constituency lost their home to lightning.
Hon. Elem on Sunday visited the home of Mr Solomon Okullu, a 19- year-old man and his wife Akello Gloria, whose house was struck by lightning and burnt to ashes on Sunday 13th September, 2026 in Olaoilongo Village, Olaoilongo Parish, Apala Sub-county, Moroto County Alebtong District.
While adressing the people of the area, the MP described the incident as a national disaster and consoled the couple who narrowly escaped death but lost all their household property to stay calm and pray to God.
According to Mr Okullu, he had just rushed home from watching a football match when it started raining. Lightning struck the house immediately upon his arrival, sparking a fire that burnt everything in his house to ashes.
Meanwhile, Hon MP Elem Leo, who is known for his closeness to the grassroots, promised to start holding regular barazas (community meetings) to listen to the challenges facing his people.
He told over 100 residents gathered at the home of Okullu Solomon that Parliament has given all MPs three weeks to go back to their constituencies to monitor the implementation of government programmes and ensure they benefit the common person.
The donation delivered by MP Elem Leo to the victims, was witnessed by several local leaders including Mr. Jimmy Ongom, the Vice Chairperson of Olaoilongo Village, Mr Felix Odongo, the LC3 Chairperson of Apala Sub-county, Hon Councilor Naume Akello Nam and Hon Omara Tobia – the district councilor V who commended Hon. MP Elem for always standing with his people in times of need.
Residents said the MP’s quick intervention had given hope to the affected family and commended him for donating food items and generous financial support to the victims of lightening incident.
