KILAK NORTH – AMURU , UGANDA – November 10, 2025 – Independent Member of Parliament candidate for Kilak North county, Hon. Kenneth Okot, will officially kicked off “Operation Saba Saba,” a campaign he pledges will secure him a decisive 80 percent victory in the upcoming 2026-2031 parliamentary race. Okot has vowed to unseat the incumbent MP, Anthony Akol, aiming to reclaim the Kilak North seat and usher in a new era of representation.
Okot, whose nomination by the Amuru District Returning Officer signals his official entry into the race, is reportedly gaining significant momentum in ,Kilak North constituency Amuru District. All preparations are now in place for his bid to join the 12th Parliament whereby he will face off against the incumbent Anthony Akol, who is also the NRM flag bearer.
In a telephone interview t
on Tuesday, Okot Kenneth outlined key pillars of his agenda. He emphasized the critical need for compensation for victims of the Atiak massacre, an atrocity committed by the LRA insurgency that deeply affected northern Uganda. Additionally, he highlighted the expansion of electricity access to all the sub counties in Kilak North as a top priority.

“I want to be an MP who will focus on the poor people’s agenda in all villages in Kilak North,” Okot stated. He welcomed investors but stressed that their engagement must directly benefit the local populace. “The issue of land compensation and corruption by some untrusted leaders at grassroot level will be history in Kilak North county,” he asserted.
Support for Okot is visibly growing daily, particularly in Atiak, where many residents promised block in his favour votes during his nomination. They have affectionately dubbed him “Okot okelo Kuc,” meaning “Okot brings peace.” One woman from Atiak affirmed their unwavering commitment, stating they would vote for Okot “come rain, come sunshine” due to his reputation as a disciplined and trustworthy leader who has consistently delivered on his promises.

Addressing his journey to independent candidacy, Okot informed TAYARI NEWS UGANDA that his votes in the primary elections were rigged. This perceived injustice, he said, propelled voters to push him to contest the Kilak North parliamentary race on an independent ticket. Despite this, Okot, a renowned NRM cadre, maintained that he broke no party law by contesting in the NRM primaries.
“Being an independent is a right, but I remain steadfast as a member of NRM and I will continue to campaign for President Museveni throughout my campaigns in Kilak North county,” Okot affirmed. He concluded by promising to leverage his wealth of leadership experience into concrete action for the people of Kilak North once elected.
In a related development in Amuru District, Stella Laker Nyapaco was also nominated as an independent candidate and will contest against flag bearer Concy Aciro for the Amuru District Woman Parliamentary seat.
