Independent Candidate Okot Kenneth Paralyzes Elegu Town Council with Massive Campaign Launch, Block votes expected .
Kilak North , Uganda—Political activity reached a fever pitch in Elegu Town Council on Tuesday as Kenneth Okot, a vibrant independent candidate vying for the Kilak North constituency parliamentary seat, successfully launched his campaign, bringing the busy border town to a temporary standstill as thousands welcomed him in convoy promising real block votes come 15th, January 2026.
The candidate, often described by supporters as a “Okot Okello Kuc,” drew thousands of enthusiastic supporters, effectively “paralyzing” movement in the strategic town council for close to two hours as he unveiled a fully packed manifesto centered on empowerment and transformative governance.

Okot, who is running as an NRM-leaning independent candidate, stepped into Elegu Town Council with vigor and energy, greeted by throngs of people who welcomed him as the “son of the soil with a transformative agenda.” The sheer size of the crowd highlighted the significant public appetite for change and representation in the sub-region.At the core of Hon. Okot Kenneth’s campaign is a passionate commitment to addressing the crisis of youth unemployment, underrepresentation and exclusion from major projects and programs. Speaking to the massive gathering, Okot emphasized that he is entering politics specifically “to fight the vice of youth being unheard or not represented.” He projected an image of confidence, resilience, and capability, positioning himself as the voice needed in the 12th Parliament.

Unveiling his five-year plan, Okot stated that his legislative and development agenda would cover all walks of life, with a strong focus on substantially improving crucial social services.
“My plan will prioritize improving the level of health standards and elevating the quality of education available to our children,” Okot announced, emphasizing that human capital development is key to the constituency’s prosperity.
Protecting Gains and Border Prosperity
Acknowledging the critical economic role of Elegu as a vital border crossing, Okot stressed the importance of aligning local leadership with the national agenda to foster development. He explicitly urged the electorate to cast block votes for him and concurrently support President Yoweri Museveni.
“People should vote for me and President Museveni for Elegu town council to develop as we are ‘Protecting The Gains’ made by this government,” he told the cheering crowd.
His economic pledges were highly specific to the local context, promising to improve marketing strategies for cross-border connection businesses and, crucially, bringing sustainable peace and security to the business community operating at the Elegu border point. Furthermore, plans for infrastructural improvements, including better roads and access to clean water, were high on his priority list.
Overwhelming Local Support
The reception in Elegu suggests a strong likelihood of favorable electoral results for Okot. Local leaders and residents praised his grassroots approach and humility.
Oboyi Richard, a resident of Elegu town council, lauded the candidate, stating, “Let’s support him in great number because he is a humble and vibrant candidate who deserves the 12th parliament.”
Richard added that many people were actively promising “block votes in large numbers to welcome our beloved flagbearer into the sub-region,” signaling a unified political movement behind the independent candidate.
