Lango Cultural Foundation Announces Four-Day of Burial Program for Late Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii.
LIRA, UGANDA – November 17, 2025 : Lango Sub-region is preparing for a four-day period of final rites and mourning following the death of its Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci), Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii.
The Lango Cultural Foundation and the dedicated Organising Committee officially released the funeral program, detailing a series of solemn events scheduled from Wednesday, November 19, through Saturday, November 22, 2025. The schedule will see the late cultural leader honored across key locations in the sub-region before his final burial in Apac District.
“The Lango Cultural Foundation and the Organising Committee hereby announce the official funeral program for the late Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii,” confirmed Ocen Jacob, spokesperson for the Foundation, stressing that the arrangements have been made to ensure all citizens have an opportunity to pay tribute.
Schedule of Tributes and Official Ceremonies
The commemorations will begin on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, with a Vigil and Tribute Night at the Lango Cultural Foundation Offices in Senior Quarters, commencing at 4:00 pm. This night is dedicated to celebrating the Won Nyaci’s legacy through cultural performances, including poetry, songs, skits, photo exhibitions, and personal testimonials.
Thursday, November 20, marks the highly official component of the program. The late chief’s body will be retrieved from the Lira University Teaching Hospital Mortuary and transported to the Mayor’s Gardens for a Joint Regional Local Government Special Council Sitting, held specifically in his honour. Following the council session, the body will proceed to All Saints Cathedral Boroboro for a night vigil.
Requiem and Final Journey
On Friday, November 21, a Requiem Service will be held at All Saints Cathedral Boroboro starting at 9:00 am. After the service, the procession will move to All Saints Abolo COU, before the body is taken to his home for the final night vigil.
The official burial ceremony is slated for Saturday, November 22, 2025. Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Teboke, Apac District. The burial proceedings are scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
The passing of Mzee Odur Ebii marks a significant loss for the Lango people, who regard the Won Nyaci as the custodian of their culture and heritage.
The Lango Cultural Foundation spokesperson Jacob Ocen noted that daily meetings are currently underway at the Pacific Grand Hotel at 3 PM to collect biological data on the life and times of His Highness the Won Nyaci in preparation for a lasting tribute.
In regards to public mourning, condolence books have been made available daily at selected district headquarters and radio stations throughout the Lango Sub-region. Those wishing to offer financial contributions have been directed to Anthony Ayo, the Clerk to Council LCF.
