Two Dead in Fatal Shooting and Suicide incident in Agago
AGAGO, UGANDA – November 17, 2025 – A harrowing incident of domestic violence has sent shockwaves through Agago District, leaving two dead and two injured. Joint investigations by the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) and the Uganda Police Force are underway following a fatal shooting and subsequent suicide that occurred on the night of November 13, 2025.
Preliminary findings from the scene in Te-Kato Village, Lira Kato Sub-county,Agago district point to a tragic sequence of events involving Adwel John and his estranged wife, Akello Florence, aged 25.
Authorities report that at approximately 9:00 PM, Adwel allegedly obtained a firearm from the Te-Kato Army Detach. He then reportedly proceeded by motorcycle to Jengkwot Village, where he confronted Akello Florence. In a shocking act, Adwel is accused of shooting and killing his wife instantly.
The violence did not end there. Akello Florence’s sisters, 16-year-old Amolo Miriam and 15-year-old Lawino Esther, were also caught in the crossfire. Both sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were immediately transported to Kalongo Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Following the fatal shooting of his wife and the injury of her sisters, Adwel is believed to have returned to his village. There, he reportedly turned the weapon on himself, resulting in his own death.
Early indications suggest that the couple had recently separated, having two children together. The motive behind this devastating act is currently the focus of the ongoing investigation.
In connection with the incident, two civilians and two soldiers have been taken into custody to aid in the inquiries.
The UPDF and Uganda Police Force have issued a joint statement assuring the public of a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the matter. Further details will be released as they become available.
