Ambrose Ocen Installed as New Clan Chief of Otengoro Olang Clan in Grand Cultural Ceremony.

DOKOLO, UGANDA – December 20, 2025: A historic moment was marked in the heart of Lango sub-region on Saturday, December 20, 2025, as Ambrose Ocen was officially installed as the new Awitong (Clan Chief) of the Otengoro Olang Clan during a vibrant and culturally rich ceremony held in Igule, Amwoma Sub-county, Dokolo District.
The elaborate inauguration drew thousands of cultural leaders, dignitaries, and clan members from across the Lango region and beyond, including Omoro, Gulu, Nwoya, Agago, Pader, Abim, Apac, Kwania, Kole, and Oyam districts, reflecting the unity and strength of the Otengoro Olang people.
Ambrose Ocen, the current City Clerk of Fort Portal, was elected on September 27, 2025, to succeed the esteemed Counselor and former Otuke County Member of Parliament, Hon. Daniel Omara Atubo, who previously served as Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.
Presiding over the sacred installation was Eng. Dr. Moses Odongo Okune, the Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci) of the Lango Cultural Institution. In his address, Dr. Okune traced his personal connection to the Otengoro lineage, revealing that he was born on June 3, 1965, at Lira General Hospital. He recounted how Odongo Andrea of Aduku, a member of the Otengoro clan, had advised his mother to name him “Odongo,” a name she initially resisted but later embraced.
“It took a long time for Otengoro to come to me as Won Nyaci,” Dr. Okune reflected, emphasizing the deep spiritual and ancestral significance of the clan’s heritage.
Dr. Okune used the occasion to commend President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his recent directive to distribute five live cows per household in the Lango sub-region as part of a cattle restocking programme aimed at revitalizing agro-pastoralism and combating poverty.
“Whoever does good to you must be appreciated,” Dr. Okune stated, applauding President Museveni for the progressive policy, which he described as a transformative step toward economic recovery and cultural restoration in Lango.
The newly installed Awitong, Ambrose Ocen, expressed gratitude to his predecessor, Daniel Omara Atubo, and announced that Atubo had been appointed to the Clan’s Advisory Committee. Ocen praised Patrick Okello for his gracious concession and congratulatory message following the election, highlighting the peaceful nature of the transition.
“I accept this mantle not for personal glory, but as a sacred duty to serve our people, preserve our culture, and uplift our clansmen,” Ocen declared, calling for unity, education, and sustainable development within the clan.
He also commended the Etogo leadership and the Otengoro Olang Electoral Commission for ensuring a transparent and peaceful electoral process.
Hon. Joseph Jones Ogwal, the NRM Parliamentary Flagbearer for Dokolo North Constituency, attended the event as a special guest and witness to the installation, underscoring the significance of traditional leadership in governance and community cohesion.
Mr. Robert Okello Ayoo, Second Deputy Prime Minister for Programs and Development in the Otengoro Olang Clan, lauded the organizing committee and all participants for their massive mobilization and for turning the event into a colorful celebration of Lango heritage.
Former Regional Police Commander (RPC) of North Kyoga, Aruk Maruk, also graced the occasion, receiving applause for his continued support of cultural institutions.
In his remarks, Hon. Daniel Omara Atubo urged the clan’s members to fight poverty through education, embrace good health practices, protect ancestral land, and foster love and unity within families.
“Peace is broad to define,” Atubo said, reflecting on decades of national change. “But it begins in our homes, in our clans, and in our hearts.”
The celebration concluded with traditional dances, songs, prayers, and libations, symbolizing the continuity of the Otengoro Olang legacy under the new leadership of Awitong Ambrose Ocen.
Dr. Moses Odongo Okune announced that he will deliver an official message during the grand installation ceremony for all newly installed clan chiefs on December 27, 2025, marking a new chapter in the renaissance of Lango cultural governance.
