Alebtong RDC Okiswa Calls for Peaceful Christmas, New‑Year Festivities Ahead of 2026 General Elections.

ALEBTONG, UGANDA – 22, December 2025: The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Alebtong, Geoffrey Okiswa, urged residents to enjoy a “crime‑free and peaceful” holiday season and to prepare for the upcoming 2026 general elections, which are slated for 15th, January. In a press briefing held on Monday 22, December 2025, from his office in Alebtong District Headquarters, the RDC appealed for unity, responsible voting, and heightened community vigilance throughout the festive period.
Okiswa began his remarks by wishing “joyous, peaceful and secure festivals” to “Alebtong Solidarity” and all Ugandans. He highlighted the work of the District Security Committee (DSC) and the District Intelligence Committee (DIC), which have “completed prerequisite planning, preparations and organisations” to safeguard Christmas and New‑Year celebrations.
“Let us mind our character, because character counts,” the RDC said, adding that the holiday season is a time to reflect on the past year and to “hold onto the promise of peace and prosperity” as the nation looks ahead.
On Socio‑Economic Priorities, Mr. Okiswa enumerated four pillars he believes future leaders must champion:

Job creation and wealth creation – citing the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyoga, Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and Uganda Women Empowerment Programme (UWEP) as key drivers of socio-economic transformation.
Patriotic and pan‑African values to reinforce national cohesion.
Inclusive democracy, ensuring participation of youth, persons with disabilities, women, and elders in decision‑making.
He thanked President Yoweri Museveni for “creating wealth in all households” through these programmes and urged residents to “allow Jesus into their hearts and experience the peace and abundant life” that faith can bring.
The RDC extended condolences to families in Lira City and the broader Lango sub‑region who lost loved ones in 2025. He also prayed for those still battling illnesses, urging the community to support one another and to report any suspicious activity to the police or his office.
Acknowledging a historic spike in gender‑based violence during holidays, Okiswa warned that “anger and conflict must be managed through alternative, peaceful means.” He encouraged citizens to contact law‑enforcement promptly if they witness any form of abuse or unrest.
However on election outlook, he outlined that as the country gears up for the 2026 elections, Alebtong voters should really “vote wisely, freely, and fairly.” He named several prominent figures that the voters should vote for including H.E. the president of the Republic of Uganda Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,
Northern National Vice‑Chairperson Rt. Hon. Denis Hamson Obua who is also contesting for Ajuri county Parliamentary seat and Dr. Mercy Lakica the NRM flag bearer for woman mP among others.
He cautioned against “politicians who might try to use the festive season to stir chaos” and warned farmers not to “sell all their foodstuff for Christmas and New‑Year celebrations,” urging households to maintain a buffer of essential supplies and remember to save some money for school fees since the new school term will be opening early February next year.
“I say all this for God and my country,” RDC Okiswa concluded, signing off as Chairperson of the District Security Committee for Alebtong District.
Meanwhile ,local leaders and some concerned community members who spoke to TAYARI NEWS UGANDA from Alebtong town council largely welcomed the RDC’s appeal. Bosco Opio of Alebtong town council said, “The RDC’s message reinforces what we have been preaching—peace, unity, and responsible voting. We will work with the RDC’s office to ensure Alebtong is safe during this festive season”
