LIRA CITY, UGANDA – December 29, 2025 – As the New Year 2026 approaches, Dickson Odongo, director of King James Comprehensive School in Lira City, has delivered an uplifting message to students, urging them to embrace the upcoming year with determination, kindness, and hard work. The address, themed “Start Strong and Keep Moving Forward,” outlines key motivations and practical steps for academic and personal growth, alongside exciting new developments for the school community.

In his message, Director Odongo emphasized the importance of setting a positive tone for 2026. “Every day is an opportunity to learn and grow. Start your year with a positive mindset and take small steps toward your dreams,” he advised students, addressing those in critical exam years such as S.2, S.3, and Senior 5 and 6.
Hard work emerged as a central theme. Odongo reiterated, “Hard Work Brings Results,” urging students to remain consistent in their studies. “Stay committed, and you will see the results you hope for,” he said, encouraging learners from diverse communities—including Acholi, Teso, Lango, Karamoja, West Nile, and Central regions—to harness their cultural strengths as tools for success.

The director also highlighted character development, reminding students to “Stay Kind and Stay Humble.” “Being kind to others in the community and staying humble makes you a better person. These qualities will always take you far in life,” Odongo stated, reinforcing values he believes are essential for personal and professional relationships.
Responsibility and self-accountability were another focus. He advised students to “Take Responsibility for Your Goals,” emphasizing the importance of setting clear targets and staying committed to them. “Your success depends on your efforts,” he said, challenging learners to rise to challenges and seize opportunities as they arise.
In addition to motivational messages, King James Comprehensive School announced practical improvements to support students. Beginning January 5, 2026, the school will distribute mattresses to students as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure comfort and dignity. Equally notable is the acquisition of a brand-new school bus, which Odongo believes will enhance safety and ease of transportation for students and staff. “This milestone is the result of the commitment by teachers and the school administration,” he noted, crediting Opio Jsmesa, the school’s patent.
Odongo called on other institutions to emulate King James in providing safe transportation, urging a shift away from using DMC (Diversified Mobility Concepts) vehicles, which have faced criticism for safety concerns.
As 2026 dawns, King James Comprehensive School’s blend of academic encouragement, character-building, and infrastructure advancements sets a hopeful tone for its students and educators. The director’s message—rooted in perseverance, kindness, and community—serves as a roadmap for young learners navigating their futures in a rapidly evolving world.
For students and staff alike, the New Year promises both challenges and opportunities, with the director’s words echoing as a guiding principle: “Believe in your ability to overcome challenges and make the most of every opportunity.”
