Alebtong RDC Okuswa Geoffrey launches National Cleaning Days, urges communities to embrace hygiene.

ALEBTONG,UGANDA- Alebtong Resident District Commissioner, Mr Geoffrey Okiswa, on Saturday 25th July, 2026, launched the National Cleaning Days program in Alebtong, in line with the national launch presided over by H.E President Yoweri Museveni.
Mr Okiswa directed communities to take the program seriously, saying good health and sanitation are a prerequisite for socio-economic transformation being driven by government livelihood programs such as the Parish Development Model [PDM], Emyooga, and livestock restocking.
“We must embrace this program for good health. A healthy community is able to work and benefit from PDM, Emyooga and livestock restocking,” Okiswa said.
“The success of this program depends on all of us. Cleanliness should not be a one-day event,” he said.
The launch attracted several district leaders including the District Police Commander [DPC], District Internal Security Officer [DISO], District Health Officer [DHO], and the Chairperson of the Business Community, among others.
The DHO sensitized residents on proper waste disposal, clearing of drainage channels, and household hygiene as key measures to prevent disease outbreaks.
Security officials pledged support to ensure the monthly exercise is conducted in an orderly manner across all sub-counties and town councils.
The Chairperson of the Business Community was tasked with mobilizing traders to keep markets and business premises clean.
Mr Okiswa urged local leaders, schools, boda boda associations, and women’s groups to own the program and ensure it is sustained beyond the launch.
The National Cleaning Days were rolled out countrywide by the President as part of government efforts to promote public health and environmental management.
