Soroti RDC Muluga Commends Parliamentary Health commettee during Monitoring Visit at Soroti RRH

Soroti–The Parliamentary Committee on Health has concluded a two-day monitoring visit to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, citing pressure on infrastructure, equipment gaps, drug shortages and staffing challenges.
According to Hajj Imran Muluga the Resident District Commissioner, Soroti, the committee, led by its Chairperson Dr. Monday Julius Rude, the Bukonzo East MP, said the visit was aimed at assessing service delivery for Teso Sub-region and neighbouring districts.
Among the key challenges identified were congestion due to high patient numbers, inadequate specialised health workers, need for modern medical equipment and maintenance, and operational and accountability gaps.
Dr. Rude, whose committee has powers of the High Court, directed Regional Intelligence Officers to investigate alleged extortion of patients and bring suspects to book.
He also ordered an investigation into alleged violation of ethical codes of conduct by health workers, with a report expected within one week.
The committee further tasked the hospital Executive Director to be more practical in handling absenteeism and poor client care, and challenged Resident District Commissioners to step up monitoring of government programmes.
The Committee recommended expansion of infrastructure, provision of modern equipment, addressing human resource gaps, improving medicines supply, strengthening referral systems and enhancing accountability.
