Minister Beatrice Akori Urges Gov’t to release Shs2b to fence Kidepo National Game Park.

Parliament – The Minister for Northern Uganda and Agago District Woman MP, Beatrice Akello Akori, has asked government to expedite the release of Shs2 billion out of the Shs10 billion earmarked for fencing Kidepo Valley National Park, following renewed human-wildlife conflict in Agago District.
Akori made the appeal during the sixth parliamentary sitting, joining Agago North MP Benson Lugwar and Agago County MP Edward Otto Makmot in calling for urgent intervention after incidents in Lapono Sub-county and Olung in Lukole Sub-county.
The legislators’ concern follows a deadly incident on Monday, October 12, 2026, in which two people were killed and another injured after herds of cattle reportedly invaded the Boda Line area, triggering chaos.
Minister Beatrice Akello Akori said she had contacted the Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to push for a faster response on the fencing project and to address compensation claims already submitted.
The MPs called for urgent government intervention to protect communities from further harm and to ensure that affected residents are compensated.
