Alebtong – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Alebtong, Mr Mathias Lutwama, has intensified the fight against corruption in the district with the arrest of three headteachers accused of inflating pupil numbers.
Deputy RDC Mathias Lutwama, together with the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), the Deputy DISO and detectives from Alebtong Central Police Station, on Monday, October 19, 2026, led a crack operation that netted the suspects.
The arrested headteachers are:
- Mr Okello Emmanuel, headteacher of Awalu Primary School, accused of creating 900 ghost pupils
- Mr Odongo Charles, headteacher of Amugu Quran Primary School, accused of creating 1,000 ghost pupils
- Mr Okweng Nobert, headteacher of Amononeno Primary School, accused of creating 950 ghost pupils
According to Mr Lutwama, field evidence gathered through daily headcounts in Term Two and Term Three revealed huge discrepancies between actual enrolment and figures uploaded on the Education Management Information System (EMIS).
Mr Lutwama said the suspects were accessing capitation grants for non-existent learners, causing financial loss to government.
The suspects are detained at Alebtong Central Police Station and will be charged under Section 20 of the Anti-Corruption Act.
It is now a warning to all civil servants to be accountable act proffessionally and not to waste tax payers’ money in such a manner.
