PADER, UGANDA – November 4, 2025 The political landscape of Pader District has been momentarily paralyzed by shock following a serious road accident involving Mr. Akena Alfred, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Pader LCV Chairperson seat.

Residents and NRM faithful are now urgently appealing to the party’s top organs at NRM secretariat to intervene and finance Akena’s specialized medical treatment.

The specific cause of the crash remains unclear, but it has caused widespread dismay across the district. While Akena’s injuries were specific—including broken tooth and constant bleeding that doctors are attempting to contain—the public reaction speaks to the perceived seriousness of his condition.

Urgent Appeal for NRM Intervention
across numerous sub-counties in Pader District, including Puranga town council, Pader town, Ogom, Pajule, Atanga, Angagura, Latanya, Acholibur, Awere, and Rackoko sub-counties , concerned citizens and NRM political mobilizers have appealed to H.E the Presidentof the Republic of Uganda, Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Rt.Hon. Speaking to TAYARI NEWS UGANDA, many of them who spoke on condition of anonimity urged the NRM Secretariat to immediately take charge of Akena’s medical expenses to ensure he receives better medical care.

A strong NRM supporter in Atanga town council, Aruu North county, emphasized the need for immediate action, pressuring the party to transfer Akena to major national facilities like Nakaseeo and Mulago Hospital.

“We urge the NRM Secretariat to do all it takes to transfer Alfred Akena to Nakasero or Mulago General Hospital for further management,”An NRM moblizer of Ongom sub county demanded.

“Doctors are working on my lost tooth to stop the constant bleeding,” Akena stated. “They will do surgery on Monday, November 10, 2025, in a private clinic in Lira. Pray for me.”

The accident comes at a crucial time; Akena recently won the NRM primary and was duly nominated by the independent Electoral Commission (EC) as the official flag bearer, just weeks before the official campaign period is set to commence.

Rival Shows Solidarity
In an unusual display of political camaraderie, Akena’s rival, Independent LCV Candidate Oringa Largo Geoffrey, posted a message of support on a WhatsApp platform shortly after the incident.

“Members, let’s pray for Akena Alfred, Flagbearer NRM Chairperson Pader District, for quick recovery,” read the post made on Monday evening. “However, Doctors are doing what it takes to rescue his life from danger. I love healthy competition other than crooked means. May he recover so soon.”

However, efforts to contact key NRM leadership regarding the public’s appeal proved futile. Attempts to reach NRM Secretary General Todwong Richard via his known phone number were unsuccessful by press time.
