By Okidi Patrick KAMULI ,UGANDA– November 7, 2025 — The political landscape of Kamuli district has been dramatically reshaped, with palpable panic spreading amongst hopefuls following the formal return of veteran politician Proscovia Salaamu Musumba to the Bugabula South Parliamentary contest.
Musumba, representing the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), officially harmonized her campaign program at the Kamuli Electoral Commission (EC) offices , signaling a massive push to reclaim a seat she once held for two consecutive terms. Her entry is widely viewed as the ultimate political “game changer,” shaking up a race many rivals had already considered settled.

The PFF stalwart is slated to launch her full campaign program with a massive rally on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The comeback carries significant political and historical weight in the region. Musumba’s long-standing political credentials, spanning from her tenure as area MP to her time as Kamuli LCV Chairperson, are being credited by her supporters as providing an unmatched edge in experience and credibility.
In an interview with TAYARI NEWS UGANDA during the harmonization meeting at the EC, Hon. Salaamu Musumba stated her mission was to return to “a constituency that made me who I am.” She is appealing both to the old guard who remember her legacy projects two decades ago and to a new generation of voters.

Salaamu Musumba stated her mission was to return to “a constituency that made me who I am.” She is appealing both to the old guard who remember her legacy projects two decades ago and to a new generation of voters.
“Bugabula South is my home. I come in peace to offer service delivery, audit government programs, and restore public trust in leadership,” Musumba asserted. “The 12th Parliament should be about service, not flags.”

Musumba’s bid is further amplified by a strategic political realignment. Sources confirm she has reconciled and is working closely with the First Deputy Prime Minister and former Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga, a figure who commands considerable voter sympathy and influence across Kamuli district.
“Salaamu has unmatched political maturity and national articulation. She’s the only one who can effectively back up Kadaga in Parliament and restore Busoga’s lost political voice,” commented one enthusiastic PFF supporter.

The immediate political effect of Musumba’s campaign traction has been genuine panic among her fellow aspirants. The contest for Bugabula South is now a crowded field featuring seven candidates, each vying for attention against the returning veteran.

The nominated candidates in the Bugabúla County South race include ; Matayo Bazanya (National Resistance Movement (NRM), Pastor Andrew Muwanguzi (National Unity Platform (NUP), Ronald Kirimani Kabanda (Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Proscovia Salaamu Musumba (PFF), alongside Independents Patricia Katagwa, Sanon Dhizaala, and Robert Gwaivu. However, despite the crowded field, voting patterns remain highly unpredictable with many people hoping that Salamu Musumba will take early lead come January 15, 2026 general election .

Musumba’s intent to wage a high-octane campaign was echoed in a strong message shared on her X (formerly Twitter) platform shortly after the EC meeting.
“Hello Uganda! Hello Bugabula South! The true champion of the East, bringing a career of courageous opposition and a clear mandate for community redemption, rebuilding our resource base, affirmative action and the unyielding voice of the people,” the post read. “A veteran of the pro-democracy struggle, we introduce Proscovia Salaam Musumba… Deployed to frontline our message of change to the people of Bugabula County South, we move from vision to action.”
