KOBOKO – The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Koboko, Mr Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, has launched the measles-rubella immunisation campaign targeting 45,000 children in the district.
Mr Mpimbaza, accompanied by the District Chairperson, Mr Mambu Asiraf, Chief Administrative Officer Mr Ogwang Nicholas and District Health Officer Dr Lokwang Paul Pax, launched the exercise at Mundukudu Cell in Koboko Municipality despite a heavy downpour.
The RDC appealed to all parents to take children aged nine months to below five years for immunisation against measles-rubella during the five-day exercise.
He said the immunisation is free and urged parents to always immunise their children against the 14 killer diseases, noting that the NRM government takes immunisation seriously and it is now part of the NRM manifesto.
The District Chairperson, Mr Mambu, emphasised the importance of immunisation, warning that unimmunised children risk death. He gave testimony of his own sister who died of measles due to lack of immunisation.
Mr Mambu directed the arrest of any individual or organisation that campaigns against the immunisation exercise.
The DHO, Dr Lokwang, assured parents that the vaccine is safe.
The LC1 Chairperson for Mundukudu Cell, Mr Kemis Yasir Emma, thanked the district local government for choosing his cell for the launch.
Mr Kemis commended the NRM government for introducing free immunisation against the 14 killer diseases in Uganda.
