Emmanuel Ebong Opeto Declares Readiness for Lira City West Mayoral Race, Will Campaigns on ‘Unity, Peace & Development’
LIRA CITY WEST, UGANDA – November 8, 2025 – The political atmosphere in Lira City West Division is getting more interesting as Mr. Emmanuel Ebong Opeto, a popular and respected figure, has officially made his political comeback, declaring his candidacy for the mayoral seat in the upcoming 2026 elections.


Unveiling a bold new campaign poster and slogan, “Unity, Peace and Development,” Opeto’s declaration follows his recent nomination by the Electoral Commission to contest for the Lira City West Mayoral seat under the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) flag.
Mr. Ebong Emmanuel Opeto, is a leader highly regarded for his previous leadership track record, which left a lasting legacy of development and community engagement. With renewed energy and a clear vision, he now seeks to reclaim the Lira City West’s top leadership position and continue his mission of transformative governance.
“I have returned not for power but to serve,” Opeto stated confidently. “Lira City West Division deserves leadership that listens, unites, and delivers. I am here to begin a new era of Lira City West’s development that puts people first.”
The race is expected to be intensely competitive. Opeto will face off against formidable contenders, including Ogwal Ogweng, who is running as an Independent, Opio Rashid of NRM , among others. Despite the strong competition, Ebong Opeto has vowed to emerge victorious.
