Lango Unites for Decent Burial of Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii, Burial Set for November 22, 2025
LIRA, Uganda – Lango cultural leaders,of the Lango Cultural Foundation and Lango Cultural Institution, and the family of the late Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii have unequivocally declared their commitment to a unified and “decent” burial for the revered cultural leader, scheduled for November 22, 2025. This was announced during a press briefing held on Saturday 15th, November, 2025 at the Grand Pacific Hotel, where leaders urged for an end to divisive rhetoric and a focus on collective mourning.
Dr. Lorry Lawrence Ocen, who serves as the Speaker of the Lango Cultural Foundation and chairperson of the burial committee, emphasized the collective resolve. “All the clans agree to bury the Won Nyaci in a decent way,” Dr. Ocen stated. He further revealed that a joint communique issued on Friday confirmed that the burial would proceed collaboratively, “without the issue of cultural interference,” stressing that this is paramount for unity, not division. Dr. Ocen urged individuals spreading messages of disunity on radio stations and social media to immediately cease such acts.

Echoing Dr. Ocen’s sentiments, Professor Willy Okullu, the Prime Minister of the Lango Cultural Institution, confirmed the consensus reached during discussions on Friday. “It is true that I led a delegation of Won Nyaci me Lango from Lango Cultural Institution, and the issue we discussed points out that the death of Yosam Odur Ebii should be of unity but not segregative,” Professor Okullu said. He passionately call upon Lango to prepare for the burial, noting, “This is the first of its kind that unity should prevail so that Lango move forward.”
Rt. Hon. Ogwal Oyee Fedrick, the acting Won Nyaci of the Lango Cultural Foundation (LCF) and its Prime Minister, added a poignant note to the proceedings. He narrated that since November 10, 2025, countless individuals he has spoken to expressed admiration for the late Yosam Odur Ebii. “It is now time to implement what they have been saying good of Yosam a week ago during this time of his burial that will be on the 22nd November , 2025,” Hon. Fedrick urged. He extended an olive branch to the Lango Cultural Institution, affirming, “For our friends in Lango Cultural Institution, we are united with them in order to give Yosam a decent send-off.”

The family’s commitment to unity was confirmed by Anthony Olobo Odur of the Atek Omwony-pel clan, son of the late Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii. He confirmed their agreement to bury Yosam together and commended the cultural institutions for agreeing to hold joint burial meetings. Mr. Olobo Odur specifically applauded Bosco Ogwang Edola for his efforts in fostering the unity established so far, adding a heartfelt plea, “Come without fear and stand with us.”

Further solidifying the joint effort, Bosco Ogwang Edola of the Omola-tar-odyakol clan, who serves as the Minister of Finance under Dr. Moses Micheal Odongo Okune, called upon all 190 clans of Lango to unite for the burial of “Apap Yosam Odur Ebii.” As a personal gesture of condolence and support for the committee, Mr. Edola contributed one million shillings cash towards the burial arrangements. He concluded by dispelling rumors and inviting community participation: “From tomorrow, we don’t want rumors; come to Grand Pacific Hotel for a meeting which is taking place daily,” while also congratulating the Atek Omwony-pel clan for their unifying message.
The unified stance by various Lango factions signals a strong intent to honor the late Won Nyaci with dignity and promote reconciliation within the cultural leadership.
