NRM Cadres hail President Yoweri Museveni’s Free Education Policy, a massive thanksgiving set for Kololo.

KAMPALA — Cadres of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) have organized a massive thanksgiving ceremony to honor President Yoweri K. Museveni for his introduction of Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE), policies credited with expanding access to learning for millions of Ugandan children.
The upcoming event is being framed as a celebration of the NRM’s foundational commitment to social transformation under the powerful rallying cry: “Abaana boona Basome” (All Children Must Learn) .
The appreciation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the iconic Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala. Organizers are calling on beneficiaries, parents, and all patriotic Ugandans to attend.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty
For decades, the NRM government has championed free education as the cornerstone of its socio-economic strategy. Supporters argue that the implementation of UPE in 1997 dramatically increased enrollment rates, taking education out of the exclusive realm of the privileged and ensuring that even the poorest families could send their children to school.
According to preliminary statements from the organizing committee, the ceremony is intended to publicly acknowledge the profound impact these policies have had on national development and reducing income inequality.
“President Museveni made a promise to the people of Uganda: that their children would not be denied opportunity merely because they were poor,” stated a briefing document from the NRM Secretariat. “The ability for every child—regardless of background—to gain literacy and basic skills has revolutionized our workforce and strengthened the fabric of our society. This thanksgiving is long overdue.”

A Day of National Gratitude
Okidi Patrick, a key coordinator for the event, emphasized that the Kololo gathering will be more than a simple political rally; it is a national moment of gratitude.
“We are mobilizing cadres from every region, every district, and every village to stand together and show the world that we appreciate a leadership dedicated to investing in human capital,” Mr. Okidi stated. “The numbers speak for themselves. Millions of Ugandans who are now doctors, teachers, engineers, and successful entrepreneurs owe their foundation to the vision of one man who believed in Abaana boona Basome.”

The event is expected to draw high-profile government officials, cabinet ministers, NRM stakeholders, and tens of thousands of citizens, all converging to celebrate what the party considers one of its greatest achievements since taking power.
