Minister Amongi Unveils Poverty Eradication Manifesto in Boroboro, Promises massive Empowerment for Women and Youth.
LIRA CITY, UGANDA – November 19, 2025 – With the 2026 general elections drawing nearer, Minister Betty Amongi has launched a comprehensive poverty eradication manifesto for the people of Boroboro West Ward in Lira City. Addressing a large gathering of constituents on Wednesday, Minister Amongi outlined a series of ambitious promises aimed at fostering economic empowerment, particularly for women and youth groups, should she be elected as the Woman Member of Parliament (WMP) for Lira City.

A cornerstone of her agenda is the commitment to provide affordable loans of low interest rate to women and youth who have organized themselves into groups in various parts of Lira city. Minister Amongi emphasized that her service delivery would be inclusive and extend to all residents of Lira City, transcending political affiliations.
Further detailing her vision, Minister Amongi announced plans to establish a vocational skilling center. This center will offer short courses in various fields, including tailoring and garment cutting, bakery, salon and hair dressing, equipping individuals / youth with practical skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential.

Highlighting her past contributions, Minister Amongi spoke of her personal investment in infrastructure development within Lira City in recent months. She disclosed that she had personally funded the construction of the bridge linking Akwiyaworo to other areas, and had also used her own resources to rehabilitate roads from Akwiwaworo, Barapwo, and Angwetangwet among others. Additionally, she reported the distribution of seeds and over 20,000 hoes to support agricultural initiatives.
However, Minister Amongi also voiced concerns about intentional obstruction put in place by certain individuals in Lira City, which she claims prevented the repair and fixing of roads in areas like Akia, Ngeta, and Iwal, leading to the discontinuation of work. She stated that she and MP Obongi Eyit of Lira City West Division were obstructed, resulting in the exclusion of these areas from their earlier planned road improvements.

Addressing the pervasive issue of unemployment, Minister Amongi pledged to create employment opportunities for the youth. Her proposed solutions include promoting poultry farming, small-scale agriculture, and cooperatives as key strategies to combat poverty within Lira City Council.
A significant promise involves revitalizing the cooperative system, offering interest-free school fee loans with a three-month repayment period, and loans with interest for longer durations. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on families struggling to afford education for their children.
For graduates, Minister Amongi revealed that she has actively lobbied for job matching schemes, volunteer programs, and internships with 37 companies. These opportunities will allow graduates to gain valuable experience and receive a token payment ranging from 500,000 to 1,000,000 UGX per month.
Minister Amongi’s campaign trail in Boroboro Ward on November 19, 2025, signals a focused effort to connect with constituents and present a tangible plan for economic upliftment and improved livelihoods in Lira City.
