Alebtong RDC Okiswa Calls for Impartiality, Preparedness in Political-Festive Season; Warns NRM Structures on suporting Independent Candidates.
ALEBTONG, UGANDA –November 19, 2025:
Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Geoffrey Okiswa has called on security agencies and local leaders to uphold emotional intelligence, impartiality, and a high state of readiness as the district navigates a period of heightened political campaigning and upcoming festive celebrations. The directives were issued during the routine monthly District Security Committee (DSC) meeting held in Alebtong District Headquarters on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media in an exclusive interview on Wednesday evening ,following the DSC meeting, RDC Okiswa emphasized the critical need for vigilance and unbiased conduct. “In this political and festivities season, we resolved among other issues to remain emotionally intelligent, impartial, and on standby Class One,” Okiswa stated, underscoring the importance of maintaining peace and order during potentially charged times.
Following the security deliberations, commissioner Okiswa, accompanied by other officials, subsequently embarked on a joint monitoring exercise of “Link to Progress” development projects across Angeta and Abako Sub-counties. The projects, which include the construction of new water sources and drainable toilets, are reportedly progressing steadily.
“The projects are on steady progress for me to commission in January 2026,” Okiswa confirmed, highlighting the district’s commitment to improving vital public health infrastructure for its residents.
On the political front, RDC Okiswa noted that the ongoing campaign activities were generally proceeding smoothly within the district. He particularly commended Hon. Obua Denis Hamson GCW and NRM national Vice chairperson Northern Region for conducting a peaceful ongoing campaign, setting a positive example for other aspirants.
However, Okiswa did not shy away from issuing a stern warning to certain party structures, specifically targeting members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) at the district level. He cautioned against supporting independent candidates, emphasizing that such actions undermine party discipline and unity.
“I warned some party structures for supporting independents, especially some of them in the NRM party structures at district level,” Okiswa asserted, signaling a firm stance against internal dissent that could weaken the ruling party’s position.
The RDC’s pronouncements underscore a dual focus on maintaining security and order while simultaneously driving development initiatives and upholding political party discipline as Alebtong heads into a significant period of both political contests and festive celebrations.
