UPDF Investigates Fatal Christmas Day Crash in Abim; Driver Arrested
ABIM, UGANDA – December 27, 2025: The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 5th Infantry Division has launched a formal investigation into a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a prominent clergyman on Christmas morning in Abim District.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 AM on December 25, 2025, in Riamriam Cell, Kalakala Ward, within Kiru Town Council, Labwor county, Abim district .
According to a statement released by the UPDF, the accident involved a military vehicle, registration number H4DF 2383, and a motorcycle. The collision resulted in the immediate death of Rev. Achilla John Bosco, 56, who was traveling on the motorcycle at the time of the crash.
Immediate Action Taken In the wake of the tragedy, the UPDF confirmed that the driver of the military vehicle has been placed under arrest. The vehicle itself has been handed over to the Abim District Police to facilitate an independent and thorough investigation into the cause of the collision.
Captain Ibrahim Sekitto, the Public Information Officer for the 5th Infantry Division, expressed the military’s “deep regret” over the loss of life.
“The Division has instituted a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and assures the public that the findings will be communicated upon completion,” Capt. Sekitto stated.The UPDF has extended its formal condolences to the family of Rev. Achilla, the leadership of the Church, and the wider community of Abim. Recognizing the victim’s standing in the community, the Force confirmed it is working closely with both the bereaved family and church officials to ensure the deceased is laid to rest with dignity.
“The UPDF remains committed to transparency and accountability and will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses,” the statement concluded.
The death of Rev. Achilla John Bosco has cast a somber shadow over Christmas celebrations in the region, as residents mourn a leader described by many as a pillar of the local faith community. Local authorities have urged the public to remain calm as the police and military investigators complete their work.
