North Kyoga Police Issue Easter Security Advisory

LIRA, UGANDA- APRIL2, 2026: As the Christian community concludes the Lenten period and enters Holy Week ahead of the Easter celebrations, the North Kyoga Regional Police Headquarters, together with all Territorial and Divisional Commands, has extended warm wishes to the public while calling for heightened vigilance.
Easter is typically characterized by increased activity, including large church gatherings, overnight prayers, travel between urban and rural areas, as well as social and entertainment events. However, according to North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, these activities may also create opportunities for criminal elements to exploit unsuspecting members of the public.
Police have cautioned the public to remain alert against potential threats such as terrorism, robbery, defilement, rape, housebreaking, theft, and substance abuse. Authorities also warned that increased movement during the festive period often leads to a surge in road traffic accidents, urging all road users to plan journeys in advance, avoid reckless driving, and strictly observe traffic regulations.
The Uganda Police Force in North Kyoga Region has assured the public of its full preparedness to ensure safety and security throughout the Easter period. Police say they will continue to execute their constitutional mandate of protecting life and property, maintaining law and order, and preventing and detecting crime, in collaboration with other security agencies.
Leaders of places of worship, managers of entertainment venues, and operators of hotels and guest houses have been urged to strengthen security measures. These include screening individuals at entry points using hand-held metal detectors and ensuring proper identification of guests. Police have warned that non-compliant establishments risk facing immediate enforcement action following inspections.
Students returning home for the Easter holidays have also been advised to exercise caution, avoid accepting lifts from strangers, and use reliable means of transport. They are further cautioned against trusting unknown individuals offering accommodation and encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
Police say both foot and motorized patrols will be intensified, especially in crime-prone areas, alongside intelligence-led operations to counter emerging threats. The CCTV Command Centre will maintain 24/7 surveillance, monitoring activities and providing real-time updates to ground commanders.
Authorities emphasized that the integration of advanced surveillance systems, coupled with community vigilance, will enhance security efforts during the festive season.
The North Kyoga Regional Police has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe, peaceful, and joyful Easter celebration for all.
