OYAM MURDER PROBE: Teenager’s body found crushed on Kamdini-Lira highway after night dance
By OKIDI PATRICK
OYAM — Police in Oyam District have launched a major homicide investigation following the shocking discovery of an 18-year-old peasant farmer’s body dumped in the middle of the busy Kamdini–Lira highway.
The deceased, identified as Denis Owiny, was a resident of Alyec Village, Akaka Parish in Aber Sub-county. Detectives believe he was deliberately left on the active roadway under mysterious circumstances before being repeatedly run over by speeding vehicles.
Fatal Night Out
According to North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the tragic incident began on Saturday evening, May 16, 2026. Owiny reportedly left his home to attend a popular dancing event at a local bar owned by one Patrick Ogwang, located at Adak A Village, Ocini Parish in Kamdini Sub-county.
However, the night of fun turned into a nightmare. At around 5:00 AM on Sunday, horrified residents and early morning commuters stumbled upon Owiny’s mutilated body lying dead center on the tarmac at Adak A Village.
The community immediately alerted the area Local Council I (LC I) Chairperson, who rushed to notify law enforcement. The matter was formally reported at Oyam Central Police Station at 7:30 AM by Bosco Enin, a 64-year-old peasant farmer from the deceased’s village.
Detectives Comb Scene
A specialized team of detectives and uniformed officers, led by the Oyam District Criminal Investigations Officer (D/CID/O), D/ASP Lucy Ayoo, immediately cordoned off the scene on Sunday morning.
The highway crime scene was thoroughly examined, processed, and documented by forensic detectives D/CPL Edou and D/C Omwany. Investigators have already recorded statements from crucial witnesses, including the individual who first reported the case.
Owiny’s body was carefully retrieved and conveyed to Anyeke Health Centre IV, where a comprehensive postmortem examination is being conducted to establish whether he was already dead before being placed on the highway.
Hunt for Suspects
SP Okema confirmed that inquiries are being aggressively pursued to untangle the circumstances leading up to the teenager’s death.
“Our immediate efforts are focused on retrieving the official postmortem report, recording statements from additional vital witnesses who were at the bar, and identifying and apprehending the suspected culprits,” Okema stated.
Police have urged anyone with information regarding Owiny’s final hours at the dancing venue to step forward and assist with the ongoing investigations.
