Primary School Teacher Arrested in Obongi for allegedly swindling 13 m UGX from Emyooga SACCO
Obongi, Uganda- April 4, 2026: Police in Obongi District have arrested a primary school teacher for the alleged embezzlement of over Shs13 million from an Emyooga SACCO.
Ms. Driciru Freda, a teacher at Aringajobi Primary School in Aliba Sub-county, is accused of forging the signature of the Chairperson of the Obongi Constituency Market Vendors Emyooga SACCO to illicitly withdraw the funds.
Ms. Driciru served as the SACCO’s treasurer until she was voted out of office last year. Following the discovery of the missing funds, SACCO members registered a case of forgery and embezzlement at Obongi Central Police Station under SD REF CRB 225/2025.
According to reports, the suspect abandoned her teaching duties and went into hiding shortly after the case was opened, before her eventual arrest.
