OBONGI, UGANDA — The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, has urged parents to prioritize the education of their children and remain vigilant against suspicious elements reportedly infiltrating the district.
Hashaka made the remarks on Easter Sunday while joining the congregation at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish in Obongi for the festive Mass. He was accompanied by the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC), Robert Obina Komakech, and retired ASP Francis Demayi.
He however prioritized education, Protecting girls as the way to go.
Addressing the faithful, the RDC emphasized that education remains the only sure way to transform the district. He tasked parents with ensuring all children are enrolled in school and supported until completion.
“Safeguarding our children is a collective responsibility. I particularly call upon parents and guardians to protect our daughters from defilement and all forms of abuse that cut short their dreams,” Hashaka said.
While assuring residents that the district remains calm and under control, Hashaka dropped a security bombshell, warning of suspicious individuals believed to have entered Obongi from Arua City.
The RDC noted that these elements are allegedly associated with the notorious “fire eaters” gangs. He cautioned the public to remain security-conscious and report any unfamiliar or suspicious persons to the authorities immediately to sustain the current peace.
“Remain vigilant. Security starts with you. Cooperate with our agencies to ensure these groups do not find a foothold in our community,” he added.
RDC Hashaka concluded his message by calling for unity and peaceful coexistence. He urged the community to use the Easter season as a time for spiritual renewal and to reflect on the values of faith that bind the people of Obongi together.
The RDC’s call for vigilance comes at a time when security agencies in Obongi and West Nile sub- region have intensified patrols to curb urban crime and cross-border security threats.
