Boost for Life Expectancy as RDC Hashaka Rallies Obongi Parents for Massive Immunisation Drive.

OBONGI, UGANDA — April 10, 2026: The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, has called on parents to take full advantage of the Integrated Child Health Days to safeguard their children against 13 preventable killer diseases.
The RDC made the appeal on Thursday, April 9, 2026, while monitoring the ongoing exercise at Obongi Health Centre IV. He emphasized that the comprehensive immunisation drive is a testament to the NRM government’s commitment to improving the health and life expectancy of all Ugandans.
NRM’s Healthcare Success
Addressing parents and health workers, Hashaka lauded President Yoweri Museveni’s administration for prioritizing free healthcare services. He noted that the government has consistently invested in vaccines to ensure that no Ugandan child dies from preventable ailments.
“This exercise is entirely free of charge. I want to thank the NRM government for implementing these vital programs that protect our future generations. It is through such initiatives that we have seen a significant rise in our national life expectancy,” Hashaka stated.
However, the RDC expressed concern over the low involvement of men in childcare activities within the district. He noted with regret that many fathers have abdicated their parental duties, leaving mothers to “hustle and struggle” alone to ensure children are vaccinated.
“I am advising the fathers in Obongi to join the mothers at the immunisation centres. It is unfortunate that many men have left the responsibility of bringing up children entirely to women. Child-rearing must be a collective effort between both parents,” he urged.
The month-long exercise, which concludes on April 30, is being conducted across multiple sites, including Obongi Health Centre IV, Obongi Town Council Primary School, and various trading centres. To ensure no child is left behind, the district has also deployed mobile teams to reach children in schools and other institutions.
The RDC commended health workers for their dedication and professional conduct since the exercise began, urging them to maintain the momentum until the deadline.
As the Integrated Child Health Days continue, security and local leaders have been tasked with mobilizing every household to ensure 100% coverage across the district.
