PWD MP Acan Joyce: “Unity and Education are Our Greatest Weapons”

KAMPALA, UGANDA: April, 16, 2026: Following the successful conclusion of the NRM leadership retreat at Kyankwanzi, the Member of Parliament for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Hon. Joyce Acan Okeny, has delivered a powerful message of hope and resilience to her electorates.
In a statement released to the media on Thursday16th April, 2026, ahead of her upcoming swearing-in ceremony for the 12th Parliament, Hon. Joyce who is a returnee to parliament emphasized that the progress of PWDs in Uganda rests on three non-negotiable pillars: unity, hard work, and the education of their children.
“These three pillars will develop the PWD community at a steady, unstoppable speed,” she noted. “Let us keep our hands together and support one another to ensure we all receive the equal treatment we deserve.”
Hon. Acan, who described the Kyankwanzi retreat as a smooth and transformative experience, urged her fellow PWDs to look beyond their physical challenges and focus on building a collective future. She particularly rallied parents to prioritize education, describing it as the key to breaking the cycle of marginalization.
As the country prepares for the swearing in ceremony of the members of the 12th Parliament, Hon. Acan’s call for “equal treatment” signals her readiness to champion legislative reforms that address the specific needs of the PWD fraternity.
“I pray that the Almighty God continues to protect us and bless our families. Together, we grow,” she added.
Hon MP Acan Joyce Okeny has always advocated for the welfare of PWDs in all public functions during all her adress. She also commended H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda for uplifting and advocating for the inclusion of PWDs in all sectors and offices in Uganda.
