As the NRM prepares for its next five-year term starting May 12, 2026, the spotlight is firmly on the Lango sub-region’s most influential legislators who are expected to be appointed as ministers in the cabinet. Following a decisive vote of confidence in President Museveni on January 15, the region is poised to play a central role in the next government.

Political insiders suggest that Lango could be rewarded with about five (5) to eight (8) cabinet slots. Among the pool of talented leaders, eight MPs stand out as the most vibrant, loyal, and technically skilled candidates for ministerial appointments.
The Powerful Women of Lango:
- Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero (Lira City Woman MP): Widely celebrated for her transformative work as Health Minister, Dr. Aceng remains a ministerial material. Her landslide victory in Lira City is a testament to her hard work and the deep trust she enjoys from both the President, PLU leadership and her constituents.
- Betty Amongi Akena (Oyam South): A seasoned and strategic leader, Amongi is considered a “useful daughter of the soil.” Her ability to bridge political divides and her experience in various ministries make her an indispensable asset for the President’s upcoming term hence, making her to be condered basing on the IPOD agreement.
- Linda Agnes Auma (Lira District Woman MP): As the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Auma has proven herself as an exposed and visionary leader. A top-tier NRM mobilizer, her technical expertise is exactly what the next cabinet needs to drive development.
- Santa Alum Ogwang (Oyam): Known for her calm demeanor and deep political experience, Alum is regarded as one of the most skilled female politicians in the region. Her inclusion would bring seasoned legislative wisdom to the executive.
The Visionary Gentlemen:

- Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti (Kole North): Eloquent, vibrant, and highly flexible, Dr. Opio has emerged as a powerful voice in the Lango Parliamentary Group. His massive victory margin in Kole North proves he is a popular choice who understands the pulse of Northern Uganda.
- Hon. Sam Engola (MP-Elect, Erute South): The “architect” of NRM in Lango, Engola’s return to Parliament is seen as a major win for the party. As a senior cadre and influential presidential advisor, his return to the cabinet would provide the region with the high-level mobilization and development it deserves.
- Hamson Denis Obua (NRM Vice Chairperson, Northern): Despite the hurdles of the recent polls, Obua remains a towering figure in the NRM hierarchy. As Government Chief Whip, his loyalty and leadership within the party make him a key candidate to continue steering the President’s agenda.
- Paul Omara (Otuke County): Bringing a strong financial background and international exposure, Omara is among the most informed and vibrant MPs in the 11th Parliament. His focus on the NRM agenda and legislative brilliance makes him an ideal candidate for a ministerial portfolio.
As President Museveni is believed to be chosing his cabinet , these eight leaders can possibly represent the best of Lango’s intellectual and political capital, ready to deliver on the promises of the 2026-2031 term.
