LIRA CITY, UGANDA : President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a stern warning to corrupt officials, stating that there is “enough space in Luzira Prison” for anyone caught stealing or deducting funds meant for the Parish Development Model (PDM).
The President made the remarks on Saturday during a grand thanksgiving ceremony at Lango College grounds. The event, organized by the Director General of the External Security Organisation (ESO), Ambassador Joseph Ocwet, was to celebrate Museveni’s landslide victory in the Lango sub-region, where he secured over 80% of the vote in the January elections.
“No one should deduct even a shilling from the PDM money. If our people have money in their pockets, it becomes easier for the government to achieve other developmental goals,” the President said.
Coffee and Wealth Creation:
During his address, the President emphasized wealth creation through commercial agriculture. He notably congratulated a resident only identified as Apio of Amach for her exemplary efforts in farming.
Following the rally, the Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Geoffrey Okiswa, applauded the President’s directive to establish a coffee seedling nursery at his Baralegi based farm.
“The President’s message on wealth creation is transformative. Preparing a coffee seedling garden in Baralegi is a very wise idea that will provide our farmers with the high-value crops they need to escape poverty,” RDC Okiswa noted.
According to RDC Okiswa, the President’s visit was so fruitful in that he enlighten the wanahinchi about government wealth-creation programs such as PDM at parish level and EMYOOGA at County level.
On arrival, the President was received by the Government Chief Whip who also serves as the Vice Chairperson NRM-Northern Region, Rt. Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, Minister Norbert Mao, Ambassador Ogwang Okul, Commissioner of RDCs in Northern Uganda Dr. Akello Alice Opio, RCC Egole Lawrence alongside other top regional leaders. In attendance also was Lt. Gen. Charles Otema Awany among other high profile UPDF officers.
The high-profile event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Minister of Health and Lira City Woman MP, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the MP-elect for Erute South, Hon. Sam Engola, and the State Minister for Northern Uganda, Dr. Kenneth Omona.
Ambassador Ocwet, who spearheaded the mobilization for the thanksgiving rally, thanked the people of Lango for their unwavering loyalty to the NRM, which was reflected in the record-breaking election results.
