LIRA CITY , UGANDA-April 17, 2026: The Lira Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Lawrence Emmy Egole, has called upon the people of the Lango sub-region to turn up in massive numbers this Saturday, April 18, 2026, to welcome H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The President is scheduled to visit Lango College grounds in Lira City to celebrate the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) landslide victory in the sub-region. In the recent January polls, the President secured a historic 84.7% of the vote in Lango.
Speaking to the journalists ahead of the visit on Thursday evening, RCC Egole Lawrence congratulated the Chairperson of the Organising Committee,

Joseph Ocwet, who also serves as the Director General of the External Security Organisation (ESO), for the wonderful coordination of the event.
“We are ready to host the Fountain of Honour. This visit is a celebration of the deep and growing bond between the people of Lango and the NRM government,” Egole said.
The RCC attributed the President’s overwhelming support in Lira City and Lango sub- region as a whole, to the success of grassroots wealth-creation initiatives, specifically the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP).
“The 84.7% vote was a clear signal that our people appreciate the President’s leadership and the tangible development in their households. He is coming to say ‘thank you’ to a region that believes in progress,” Egole added.
Security has been tightened across Lira City and surrounding areas to ensure a peaceful celebration. RCC Egole urged the public to cooperate with security agencies and arrive at the venue early.
The President’s visit is expected to further consolidate the NRM’s mandate in the region as he prepares for the 2026–2031 term.
