Excitement as : Lt. Gen. Charles Otema Awany Recieves Heroic Welcome in St. Lira Hotel by a good number of Youth.

Lt. Gen. Charles Otema Awany received a hero’s welcome in Lira city at St. Lira Hotel, Lango sub-region on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as he was preparing to join thousands to celebrate President Yoweri Museveni’s thanksgiving celebration organised by Ambassador Ocwet Joseph at Lango College Playground.
The UPDF Reserve Force Commander, widely respected across Northern Uganda for his role in restoring peace after the LRA insurgency, was the man of the hour at Lira Hotel abd at the Lango College grounds. Accompanied by the Minister of State for Northern Uganda, Dr. Kenneth Omona, Otema was greeted by jubilant crowds who hailed him as a pillar of regional stability.
During the thanksgiving event, organized by the Director General of the External Security Organisation (ESO), Ambassador Joseph Ocwet, local leaders praised president Museveni for winning tge 2026 general election. Prominent Journalists including Okidi Ocamoyitdye of Tayari News Uganda, credited Otema’s grassroots engagement for the NRM’s historic win in Northern Uganda due to massive moblization during the January 2026 polls.
“It is through the efforts of leaders like Lt. Gen. Otema Awany that we enjoy the peace we have today,” Ocamoyitdye remarked, highlighting the General’s long-standing commitment to the region.
Social Transformation:
Beyond his military credentials, Otema was lauded by tge people of Lango sub region for his approachable nature and “socialization”.
Mr. Charles Osendru Onywalowok, a former aspirant for Amolarar LCV seat congratulated Lt.Gen.Otema Awany who really took time to chat with various youth telling them about wealth creation and socio-economic transformation.
The celebration, which drew thousands of NRM supporters across Lango sub region served as a “Thanksgiving victory” celebration for President Museveni, who was recently declared the winner of 2026-2031 term.
Lt. Gen. Otema, recieved reception in St.Lira Hotel as he was preparing to join the massive thanksgiving event at Lango college play ground signalling his enduring influence as a popular and hard working leader in Northern Uganda.
