Obongi, Uganda — In a display of unity and community spirit, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, participated today in the Eid-Al-Aduha prayers alongside hundreds of Muslims at Riyadh Mosque in Obongi Town Council. The event marked a significant moment for the Muslim community in the district, emphasizing solidarity and shared faith during this sacred occasion.
The prayers were led by Imam Sheikh Harun Dumba from Arua City, who delivered a heartfelt sermon that resonated with attendees. Sheikh Dumba expressed gratitude for the large turnout, commending Muslims for their devotion and collective celebration of Eid Aduha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice. “Your presence here today reflects your unwavering faith and unity as a community,” he stated.
Obongi District Kadhi Sheikh Adam Sebi also took the opportunity to commend the district leadership for their exemplary support and participation. He welcomed RDC Hashaka warmly, highlighting his decision to join the community in celebrating one of Islam’s most significant festivals as a positive example of leadership engagement.
During his address, RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka conveyed warm greetings from President Yoweri Museveni, emphasizing peace and unity among Muslims and the broader community. “Your peaceful coexistence and unity are vital for development,” Hashaka remarked. He further highlighted the importance of economic empowerment for Muslims in Obongi, urging them to leverage government-funded poverty alleviation programs to improve their livelihoods.
In his speech, Hashaka challenged Muslims to actively participate in Uganda’s growing economy by taking advantage of initiatives such as the recently launched DRDIP 2 (District Rural Development Project Phase 2), UCMID 2 (Uganda COVID-19 Microfinance Initiative Phase 2), and NUSAF 4 (Northern Uganda Social Action Fund Phase 4). He pointed out that these programs are designed to target vulnerable groups, including Muslims, who historically have not benefited sufficiently from such initiatives.
“Muslims should be at the forefront of these programs,” Hashaka urged. “They present an excellent opportunity to uplift yourselves economically and socially.” He also appealed to parents within the community to prioritize education, emphasizing that investing in schooling is key to securing a bright future.
The event underscored the strong bond between government officials and local communities during festive occasions. It also highlighted ongoing efforts by authorities to promote inclusive development that benefits all Ugandan citizens regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds. As Muslims across Uganda celebrated Eid-Al-Aduha—marking Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God—participants in Obongi demonstrated their commitment not only through prayer but also through active engagement with initiatives aimed at fostering economic resilience. This collective spirit promises continued progress for Obongi District as it strives toward sustainable growth and harmony among its diverse communities.
