Minister Sam Engola Hosts IGAD Mission, Eyes October Rollout of U-MHIEWS as Regional body pledges more support for disaster preparedness
KAMPALA — The Minister for Disaster Preparedness, Hon. Sam Engola, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, hosted a courtesy visit from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development [IGAD] Mission to Uganda led by H.E. Ms. Joselyn Bigirwa.
The meeting focused on IGAD’s support to Uganda in health, education, agriculture, and water infrastructure.
U-MHIEWS implementation set:
IGAD reaffirmed its commitment to Uganda’s U-MHIEWS system. The Uganda Multi-Hazard Early Warning and Information Exchange System is scheduled for implementation between October and December 2026.
Officials said the system will strengthen real-time data sharing on disasters and public health threats across the region.
Stronger partnership on disaster programmes.
The minister and the delegation also discussed upcoming support for national disaster and preparedness programmes.
“With IGAD’s continued support, this partnership continues to grow stronger,” Engola said. “Thank you, IGAD, for your invaluable collaboration.”
