Lira City set for Uhuru Sickle Cell Run on October 3rd

LIRA CITY, UGANDA–Lira City will host the Uhuru Sickle Cell Run on Saturday, October 3, 2026, as part of a campaign to fight sickle cell disease in the Lango Sub-region.
The run will be held under the theme “Run for Life. Run for Hope. Run Against Sickle Cell.”
Organizers say the event is aimed at raising awareness about sickle cell disease and mobilizing support for people living with the condition.
Registration kits are going for Shs25,000. Participants can pick them up at 11 designated points including Voice of Lango FM, Gracious Palace Gym, Lira Regional Referral Hospital, Unity FM, Total Petrol Station, and Onzizi Courier Services in Kampala.
Other pickup stations are Amazon Pub, Vintage Lounge, QFM, Atekerio FM, and Feroz Lounge.

Health experts say Lango Sub-region continues to register a high burden of sickle cell disease. Community initiatives like the Uhuru Run are expected to boost testing, treatment and public education.
