Adjumani West MP by-election set for 17th September as EC releases roadmap.(Gen. Moses Alii RIP)

The Electoral Commission – EC has released the electoral programme for the by-election of the Member of Parliament for Adjumani West Constituency and Older Persons Female Councillor for Pachara Sub County, Adjumani District.
EC Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, outlined key activities leading to polling day on 17th September 2026.
Key dates in the by-election roadmap
According to the EC programme:
- Nomination of Candidates: 7th – 8th September 2026 at Adjumani District Headquarters
- Campaigns: 9th – 15th September 2026
- Polling Day for Older Persons Female Councillor, Pachara Sub County: 16th September 2026
- Polling Day and Tallying for MP, Adjumani West: 17th September 2026
EC: Nominations for Adjumani West by-election to run 7th-8th September.
Other activities include display of the voters’ register from 17th – 26th August, recruitment and training of polling officials, and issuance of Voter Location Slips from 7th – 16th September 2026.
Call to stakeholders
The EC called on all stakeholders in Adjumani West Constituency to participate in the above activities in accordance with the guidelines for the by-election.
The vacancy arose following the death of the MP for Adjumani West MP Gen. Moses Ali (MHSRIP). He was a Ugandan lawyer, military officer and politician who served as Second Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda from 2021 until May 2026. Ali served in the Cabinet of Uganda as Third Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament from May 2011 until June 2016.
Another vacancy is that of the Older Persons Female Councillor seat for Pachara Sub-County.
