Minister Sam Engola Issues Advisory Message Concerning Anticipated Destructive Rains From September to December.

Kampala – The Minister of State for Housing, Hon Sam Engola, has issued an advisory warning the public about anticipated heavy and destructive rains expected from September to December 2026.
According to the current weather forecast, the country is likely to experience heavy rains that could cause serious destruction.
What is likely to happen:
- Flooding of rivers beyond normal volumes
- Landslides
- Destructive thunderstorms
- Rolling of stones from uphill
- Falling of trees due to landslides and floods
- Disruption of UNEB examinations in October, November and December
- Disease outbreaks
- Destruction of infrastructure such as roads and buildings
- Destruction of crops
What we can do:
- Identify safe evacuation sites and routes
- Have contacts of your area Disaster Management Committee chairperson or members
- Plan safe means for children to access their schools
- Get contacts of school head teachers and local leaders
- Stock food
- Report any changes in river water behaviour, especially colour, smell and speed
- Escort children to school in the morning and pick them in the evening
- Make special plans for persons with disabilities, pregnant women, the elderly and the sick in your homes
- Listen to radio news at least every evening
- Prepare drainage channels around your homes
- Ensure children wear rubber-soled shoes when going to school
- LC1 and LC2 chairpersons should know their households, have a village or cell population register, and have contacts of the Town Clerk, LC3 Chairperson, CDO, Parish Chief or Town Agent
- Be vigilant and take care of life, especially those who consume alcoholic drinks. Drink responsibly.
