Over 20 Sironko officials arrested in anti-corruption swoop led by Minister Balaam.

SIRONKO — More than 20 officials in Sironko District have been arrested and some interdicted following an accountability and anti-corruption operation led by the Minister for Local Government, Hon Balaam Barugahara.
The operation is part of the ongoing “Expose the Corrupt” campaign spearheaded by the minister Balam and Namere, which has been scrutinizing officials and government projects across different districts.
Those named in the Sironko operation include senior officers from production, engineering, planning, education, health, natural resources, water, human resources, lands and finance.
They include Production Officer Dr Patrick Okuri, District Engineer Andrew Wasukila, Assistant District Engineer Gidongo Sam, Commercial Officer Vincent Wanzala and Senior Planning Officer Fred Wozisi. Former District Planner Michael Nangwale is also among those implicated.
Others are District Education Officer Fred Wesonga, District Health Officer Dr Paul Wakoko, District Natural Resource Officer Rashid Nambale, District Water Officer Alex Gidudu and Principal Human Resource Officer and Secretary to the District Service Commission Eve Muduwa.
The list further includes District Inspector of Schools Polycarp Kissa, PDM Focal Person Patrick Okori, the Town Clerks of Sironko and Budadiri Town Councils, the District Chief Finance Officer, Medical Officer Dr Tony, the District Lands Officer and the Chairperson of the District Service Commission.
Hon Minister Balaam also inspected the district administration block and raised concerns over the quality of construction works.
The allegations relate to suspected corruption and accountability failures, but remain subject to investigation. Authorities are expected to establish the facts and determine culpability of individual officers.
The Sironko swoop is the latest in a series of similar actions taken in other districts in recent months as government intensifies its anti-corruption monitoring.
