Over 80 Bursars meet in Lira Town College to boost financial accountability in schools.

LIRA — Over 80 bursars from government aided schools across Acholi and Lango Sub-region have convened at Lira Town College for a two-day workshop and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Uganda National Bursars’ Association (UNABA).
The workshop, which started Friday, September 18 and ends on Saturday, September 19, 2026, is running under the theme: “Enhancing Effective Financial Management and Accountability in Schools.”
According to Acuma Gilbert Geoffrey senior bursar of Lira Town College, they are grouped togather including Lango and Acholi sub region and the meeting aims at equipping bursars with skills to improve transparency and proper use of school funds.
Acuma who doubles as the chairperson of Lango regional Bursars’ Association said ‘Day One’ started with arrival and registration and they are moblizing members to register and be part of the cooperative. He said there will be communications from other facilitators and UNABA national leadership.
Gilbert added that this is an annual event and they are in a process to form a cooperative for the Bursers’ in the country with another gathering taking place from 1st-3rd October in Arua.
Key sessions on day one included project management matters, a presentation by the Auditor General representative on financial reporting in secondary schools, as well as engagements on SURE Pay and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
On Saturday they will elect new executive and will also feature a question-and-answer session and discussions on the way forward, before closing.
UNABA workshop is part of efforts to strengthen financial discipline and accountability in the education sector.
The meeting will be joined by City Education Officer and Lira City RCC will officially close the workshop.
