SAMARKAND, UZBEKISTAN – November 5, 2025 – Uganda’s Ambassador and Head of the Uganda Embassy in Paris, France, H.E. Doreen Ruth Amule, made a distinguished appearance at the 43rd UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where she eloquently articulated Uganda’s progressive strides in enhancing digital literacy and implementing comprehensive educational reforms.

Serving as the permanent delegate and leader of Uganda’s delegation at the high-level ministerial segment, Ambassador Amule delivered a compelling presentation on October 31, 2025. Her address, themed “Transforming Tomorrow, Today: Skills Needed for a Sustainable Future,” resonated deeply with the international audience.

“As representatives of our nations, we bear the responsibility of nurturing the dream of a sustainable tomorrow for our children,” Ambassador Amule stated, calling upon all delegates to “harness our collective wisdom to shape education policies and practices that are responsive, equitable, and resilient.”

Detailing Uganda’s practical approach to skill development, Ambassador Amule highlighted several key initiatives and educational reforms currently underway. She revealed that Uganda is in the process of “reforming our curricula at all levels of education to integrate competencies thinking.”

A significant emphasis, she added, is placed on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to bridge the gap between education and employment. “By investing in relevant programs, we equip learners with practical skills and competencies that are directly relevant to industrial needs,” she explained.

H.E. Amule underscored that the “skills needed for a sustainable future resonate deeply with our shared commitment to equipping future generations with the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving world.” She asserted that “the pillar of education for the 21st century will be the cornerstone of sustainable development.”

Acknowledging that traditional education models must evolve to meet the complexities of a rapidly changing society, Ambassador Amule stressed the imperative to redefine skills. This, she noted, includes not only fundamental literacy and numeracy but also critical competencies spanning digital literacy, emotional intelligence, environmental stewardship, and promoting entrepreneurship skills. The latter, she elaborated, involves curriculum practices cultivating creativity, risk management, business planning, and stimulating local economies for job creation.

Ambassador Amule’s address underscored Uganda’s proactive stance in adapting its educational framework to meet global challenges and prepare its populace for the opportunities of the future, positioning the nation as a key voice in international educational discourse.
