APAC, UGANDA– April 30, 2026: Security forces in Apac District have launched a manhunt for a 56-year-old primary school teacher following the recovery of an illegal semi-automatic rifle (SAR) from his residence in Ibuje Sub-county.
The suspect, identified as Auna Moses, a teacher at Atigolwok Primary School in Chegere Sub-county, reportedly fled his home in Amia Amola Village shortly before an intelligence-led raid on Wednesday afternoon.
The operation, conducted at 4:00 PM on April 29, 2026, was a joint effort between the Deputy District Intelligence Security Officer (DISO) and Crime Intelligence personnel. Although the suspect escaped, the team recovered an SAR rifle in good working condition, though it had no ammunition.
According to North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, preliminary findings indicate the firearm was possessed illegally.
Dark History
Auna Moses has allegedly been on the run since January 2026. He is linked to a New Year’s Day murder case involving Otim Moses (alias Ebong Francis), a crime reportedly committed by his brother, Oume Saidi. Saidi was later killed by a mob on January 15.
“Community members allege that Auna incited his late brother to commit the murder. He has also been accused of using the firearm to threaten residents and engage in illegal poaching,” SP Okema stated.
The RDC Visit:
In a surprising turn of events, Auna had reportedly visited the Apac Resident District Commissioner (RDC) on April 28, accompanied by his brother, Ekwang Silvesto—also a teacher. During the meeting, he expressed a desire to surrender the gun, claiming he had inherited it from a deceased relative.
However, when security teams moved in the next day to effect the recovery and arrest, the suspect disappeared. His relatives eventually handed the weapon over to the officers.
