BUKEDEA, UGANDA: April, 19, 2026: The Member of Parliament for Bukedea County, Hon. David Beecham Okwere, has challenged the people of the Teso sub-region to embrace coffee and dairy farming to eliminate poverty at the household level.
Speaking on Saturday, April 18, 2026, during the memorial service of Mzee John Omia in Bukedea, Hon. Okwere urged residents to adopt President Yoweri Museveni’s “four-acre model” of commercial agriculture.
Mzee Omia was the father of Mr. Atum, the NRM Deputy Chairperson for Bukedea District.
“We need to focus on high-value agriculture to foster sustainable development in our region. I rally all Iteso to take up coffee growing and dairy farming. These initiatives are proven to improve farmers’ livelihoods and ensure food security,” Okwere said.
The legislator noted that while Teso has traditionally relied on subsistence crops, diversifying into coffee and modern dairy production is the surest way to tap into the national and regional markets.
During the ceremony, Hon. Okwere contributed Shs1,000,000 to the family, in addition to the financial support he provided earlier toward the event’s preparations.
The memorial was attended by several local leaders and NRM supporters, who praised the MP for his continued focus on wealth-creation initiatives in the district.
