ABIM, UGANDA – November 6, 2025– Independent candidate Ayoo Joyce Makamoi is rapidly emerging as a formidable contender for the Abim Woman Member of Parliament seat, with growing public sentiment suggesting she is poised to unseat incumbent WMP Akech Okorimoe in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Makamoi, who was officially nominated on an independent ticket, is set to officially launch her campaign rally on November 10, 2025, adhering to the Electoral Commission’s guidelines in Abim district. Since her nomination, Makamoi has garnered significant backing, particularly from the “Ethur’ community, signaling a progressive foundation for her bid.
In exclusive interviews conducted by TAYARI NEWS UGANDA on Thursady 6th, 2025 across Abim district, numerous voters expressed a clear preference for Makamoi, often referring to her as the ‘young blood’ needed to bring fresh leadership. A man identified as Omwony DD from Kory town council candidly stated that Okorimoe should “now be retiring honourably from parliament.”
Echoing this sentiment, Awili, a woman from Abim New Corner,Abim town council, lauded Makamoi as “the right material of 12th parliament ” due to her perceived competence and vibrancy. Awili expressed confidence that Makamoi “can lobby for the whole of Labwor constituency as well as Abim district.”

The enthusiasm for Makamoi’s candidacy is further fueled by her “community Pro” and “bottom-up agenda” manifesto. Ochieng De Godsa of Morulem highlighted key pillars of her platform, which include improving educational standards, tackling youth unemployment, working towards upgrading Abim district to municipality status, and providing robust support for Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSAs), farmers, and orphans.
As Makamoi prepares to officially kick off her campaign on the 20th November , 2025 , the palpable support from the electorate suggests a significant shift in the political landscape of Abim District Woman MP from Hon. Akech Janet Okorimoe to the young blood setting the stage clearer for a compelling contest in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections.
A 50-year -old man of Alerek admitted that there is need to vote out candidate who only stays in Kampala but have no impact on the rural people.
