With the 2026 general elections approaching, all eyes are focused on the two women MP candidates who are flag bearers in this case, Auma Linda( NRM) and Ongina Florence Adupa (UPC) who are neck-and-neck, followed by other candidates ahead of utilizing official campaign strategies to win over the Lira electorate.

Lira, Uganda – The contest for the Lira District Woman Member of Parliament seat is shaping up to be one of the tightest electoral battles in the Lango sub-region, with political analysts gauging the hottest race is between UPC’s Florence Ongina Adupa and NRM’s Auma Linda ahead of official campaign on Monday.
According to observations and reports gathered by TAYARI NEWS UGANDA, the political mobilization efforts by both candidates have resulted in a highly polarized but evenly matched field, setting the stage for an intense campaign period leading up to the polls, tentatively scheduled for January 15, 2026.Florence Ongina Adupa, representing the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), has built a reputation as a dynamic and vocal political force. Known for her ability to move crowds, Adupa is banking on a platform centered on structured leadership and transformation.

Hon. Adupa is ready to prioritize key agenda items following demands by electorates, promising a developed roadmap rooted in integrity and evidence-based planning. Her campaign is closely aligned with the principles stipulated in the UPC manifesto, championed by party President Jimmy Akena Obote.
Voters in sub-counties like Agweng are voicing strong support for her transformative agenda. One resident, speaking to TAYARI NEWS UGANDA, stated, “Through Ongina Adupa, she will transform and empower Lira District, a community where every household thrives and every person has a fair chance to prosper. She is determined to sell her agenda with profound love and integrity.”

The NRM Incumbent: Mobilization and Grassroots Outreach is also another strength of Hon.Auma Linda Agness.
Contesting for the ruling party, Auma Linda, commands significant institutional leverage and grassroots support. A dedicated mobilizer for the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Auma Linda currently holds the crucial position of Chairperson NRM Lira District.Furthermore, Auma Linda holds a key parliamentary role as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, giving her a platform for influencing policy and development initiatives relevant to the rural district.

Auma Linda’s campaign approach is characterized by practical, visible engagement. She is noted for strong NRM mobilization and community outreach, most famously the distribution of several saucepans to women in villages across Lira District—a tangible demonstration of her commitment to empowering local women’s groups and improving household welfare.
