“Don’t wait for a case to act,” Onyuk warns as surveillance teams go on standby.

APAC, UGANDA—Apac Resident District Commissioner Andrew Onyuk has called for heightened vigilance against Ebola following reported cases in Uganda and outbreaks in neighbouring countries.
Speaking to journalists at the District Headquarters on Monday, June 1, Onyuk urged residents to take the threat seriously, stressing that Ebola has claimed many lives in Uganda before.

“We must remain alert and work together to protect our communities. Prevention is our first line of defence,” Onyuk said. He asked the public to strictly observe health guidelines including regular handwashing, use of sanitizers, avoiding handshakes, and maintaining good personal hygiene.
The RDC revealed that district security leaders are on standby to assess the situation and discuss preparedness measures to prevent any possible outbreak in Apac.
He called on households, schools, churches, markets, hotels, taxi parks, and other public places to set up handwashing facilities and ensure preventive measures are observed at all times.
Transporters Told to Act
Onyuk appealed to transport operators and conductors to provide sanitizers for passengers and keep vehicles clean.

“Ebola is real, and we should not wait until a case is reported here before taking action. Let us work together to protect our families and our district,” he said.
He urged schools, markets, public offices, churches, and health facilities to ensure handwashing stations with clean water and soap are readily available.
RDC Andrew also assured residents that the district will continue working closely with health authorities to strengthen surveillance and keep Apac safe from Ebola.
